Ready from day one to be New York City’s next Civil Court Judge, David Alan Fraiden is the experienced, compassionate candidate with over twenty years worth of legal experience helping some of this City’s most vulnerable population with their Civil Court, Family Court, Housing Court and Criminal matters. David is the candidate with trial experience. As a private attorney, David has tried cases to Jury verdict in both Civil and Supreme Court, ensuring New Yorkers obtain the justice they are entitled to. As a former Judge of the US Immigration Court, David has presided over countless trials, bringing his experience, and ensuring fairness and compassion to the litigants who appeared before him.
David's passion for justice started long before he even attended law school. As a young boy, he began working alongside his father in their family's law firm in the South Bronx. It was there that he witnessed first-hand the transformative power of a good lawyer who truly cares about their clients. After graduating Brooklyn Law School in 2001, David returned to the South Bronx, and worked tirelessly to help low-income residents with a variety of legal issues. He has experience in civil, criminal, housing, and family court matters, and has been committed to providing compassionate and fair representation to his clients. David has also served as an administrative law judge for the City of New York at OATH, where he has upheld his commitment to fairness and compassion by neutrally deciding cases involving former quality of life crimes, complex zoning issues brought by the Department of Buildings as well as other matters brought by various city agencies including the TLC, DOB and FDNY.
In 2016, David Alan Fraiden was motivated by his unwavering passion for compassionate justice and took bold action to start the process of becoming an Immigration Judge. David's goal was to ensure that all Respondents were treated fairly and justly. As an Immigration Judge, David tackled some of our nation's most pressing and complex issues, presiding over a docket of over a thousand cases and conducting numerous trials. While he did render decisions to remove individuals who had been convicted of terrorist activities and serious violent crimes, David's approach to cases involving families seeking asylum combined experience, compassion, and knowledge of the law. His track record speaks for itself -not a single family seeking asylum in New York was ordered to be removed.
Now back in private practice helping low-income residents from around the city, David's commitment to public service goes beyond his time as a federal judge. Even after leaving the bench, he continues to make a positive impact on the lives of New Yorkers by volunteering at the Port Authority where he helps migrants who have been bussed to the city from the Southern Border navigate the complex and often daunting immigration system. These individuals are often in dire need of legal assistance and guidance, and David's expertise and experience are invaluable in helping them secure their rights and protections under the law. David also serves as an attorney for the New York chapter of the NAACP and stands ready to help all residents of the city.
In addition to his legal and community service, David is a man of many talents and passions. He brings smiles to the faces of sick children in hospitals with his engaging performances and balloon animal-making skills. His heartwarming acts of kindness have brought joy and comfort to those who need it most
David supports local community organizations and has gone above and beyond to help them raise funds. He has been known to take on "feats of daring" and fire-breathing to support causes, including the Downtown Independent Democrats (DID)
With his extensive legal experience and commitment to fairness and compassion, David Alan Fraiden is the ideal candidate to become New York City's next Civil Court Judge
